With his sculptures, drawings and walk-in sculptures oriented towards basic geometric forms, the sculptor Erwin Heerich (1922–2004) developed a reduced and clear formal language of international appeal. In 1969, Heerich became a professor at the Staatliche Kunstakademie in Düsseldorf. With the walk-in sculptures he designed for Museum Insel Hombroich and other buildings on the Raketenstation, he had a decisive influence on the artistic and architectural appearance of Hombroich.

Erwin Heerich’s family has transferred his estate to the Stiftung Insel Hombroich. This includes sculptures and models made of various materials, works on paper, correspondence and Heerich’s private library.
