The sculptor, painter and action artist Anatol Herzfeld (1931–2019) studied art with Joseph Beuys at the Kunstakademie Düsseldorf from 1964 to 1972 parallel to his police service. In 1972, 1977 and 1982 he participated in the documenta in Kassel, and in 1975 he initiated the Freie Akademie Oldenburg. From 1983 until his death, Anatol Herzfeld had his studio on the grounds of Museum Insel Hombroich. The estate includes numerous paintings, sculptures and drawings as well as photos and films of his actions.
