In 1995, Karl-Heinrich Müller invited painter Georg Schmidt to work in a studio at Raketenstation Hombroich. He is still working here to this day, developing visual characters in which light plays a central role as a material and colour. For him, painting is a form of reflection for discoveries that are not tied to words, symbols or figures. Schmidt was involved in developing and displaying Müller’s collection and organised exhibitions at different venues, including the Wachhaus, the Field Institute Hombroich and the Atelierhaus. As well as this, he put together various projects and events such as Malerei parallel zur Quantenphysik (Painting Parallel To Quantum Physics) and is on the advisory board of the Insel Hombroich support association.
After studying at HFBK Hamburg and Kunstakademie Düsseldorf, Georg Schmidt exhibited his work in Germany and abroad. He lectures on colour and is a mentor of the LaB K NRW platform for artists.
