
Born in Nuremberg in 1965, artist Oliver Kruse has had close ties with Insel Hombroich from its very earliest days. He played a key role in transforming the Raketenstation from a disused military site into a place for creating and experimenting with art. A number of his sculptural works are included in Karl-Heinrich Müller’s collection and are on display in the Zwölf-Räume-Haus (Twelve-Room House) and in the park. Buildings such as the One Man House (with Katsuhito Nishikawa) and Kinder Insel Hombroich help to shape the surroundings, as does his studio at the Raketenstation. Oliver Kruse bridges the gap between the founder generation at Insel Hombroich and the artists who are currently active there. He studied Fine Art at Chelsea College of Art and Art History at the Royal Society of Arts in London and also studied under Erwin Heerich between 1987 and 1991. Since 2005, he has been Professor of Design Theory at Peter Behrens School of Arts in Düsseldorf. His work has been exhibited extensively, for example at Architecture Biennale in Venice, Omi International Arts in New York and Poznań Biennale in Poland. Oliver Kruse has been an ex officio member of the Stiftung Insel Hombroich since 1996 and has served as its Chairman for 15 years.
