Katsuhito Nishikawa (born 1949) had ties to Insel Hombroich very early on through Erwin Heerich, his instructor at Kunstakademie Düsseldorf. When Karl-Heinrich Müller acquired the Raketenstation as well, Nishikawa was among the artists that he commissioned to reshape the former military site for cultural purposes. Since then, Nishikawa has been involved in developments at Hombroich, creating sculptures such as Tilapia, Gartenlabyrinth and Field Institute Hombroich – as well as One Man House together with Oliver Kruse. His studio has been located at Raketenstation Hombroich since 1994.

Katsuhito Nishikawa’s work – which includes architecture, painting, sculpture and drawing – reflects on the interplay between nature and art. From 1974 onwards, he studied at the Academy of Fine Arts in Munich and at Kunstakademie Düsseldorf. Since 2000, he has been an honorary professor at HfbK Hamburg. His work has been showcased at a great many exhibitions in Germany and further afield.
