In 1997, Michael Growe was commis­sioned by Karl Heinrich Müller to create a permanent instal­la­tion for the guard­house. The result was “Trans­for­mator,” which, over the next ten years, stood at the entrance to the former missile station, resembling a votive offering.

Plas­ter­board walls were used as a canvas for painting inside the space. Three of the walls were dedicated to the elements and featured full-surface symbols repre­sen­ting fire, earth, and water. The fourth wall bore a text from the Book of Solomon:

The ceiling was reserved for the element of air and extended the mural verti­cally. A bench placed in the room invited visitors to linger. The colored symbols were painted precisely in position on the windows, but in black and white. Through the windows of the little house, the four elemental symbols were visible only in black and white and in fragments, making them impos­sible to decipher.

In 2017, Michael Growe initiated the dismant­ling of the instal­la­tions to make the building available for temporary exhi­bi­tions. Finally, in 2023, he launched the Wachhaus-Ausstel­lungs­reihe series in colla­bo­ra­tion with the Kunst­aka­demie Düssel­dorf.
