Wachhaus #20: Antonia Jüdt

Wenn der Frühling eine Herbstlandschaft erzählt /
when Spring tells of Autumn Landscapes
Eröffnung: 3. Mai 2026, 16 Uhr
When the Trees and bushes start showing from underneath their leaves. When their curling Branches are relieved by their late Summer Weight and when the pale but piercing Winter Sun sharpens the lines they draw. It’s like they pose, exposing their resilient charm, summed up by the sparse and countless Embellishments of turns and swirls, before exploding back into obliging saturation. When filling Blank Spaces that are never left bare behind.
In her installation at the Wachhaus, Antonia Jüdt explores the decorative qualities of art: she translates Vincent van Gogh’s painting *Autumn Landscape with Four Trees* into a drawing, which she uses to drape a canvas. The central theme is her romantic and methodical exploration of landscape painting. The expansive positioning of the image in the guardhouse intertwines her sculptural practice with drawing. In doing so, Jüdt highlights the object-like nature of the image.
Antonia Jüdt has been studying at the Kunstakademie Düsseldorf since 2020; she will study under Prof. Thomas Grünfeld until 2025 and under Prof. Ima-Abasi Okon starting in 2026.
