In her instal­la­tion, Antonia Hermes explores the blurring of boun­da­ries between spaces, objects, and language. She plays with the gaps between the attri­bu­tion of meaning and the naming of the familiar and the unknown. Found objects, such as excerpts from an archive cabinet at the Kunst­aka­demie Düssel­dorf, become the starting point for her explo­ra­tion. The physical and meta­pho­rical spaces created by the layering and juxta­po­si­tion of objects make room for new connec­tions and narra­tives. The title of the exhi­bi­tion is borrowed from the lingu­i­stic concept of “fuzzy sets,” which is based on theory that lingu­i­stic cate­go­ries are gradual—that is, with tran­si­tions rather than clear boun­da­ries.

The Wachhaus exhi­bi­tion series is a colla­bo­ra­tion with the Kunst­aka­demie Düssel­dorf, in which students create a new instal­la­tion on site every two months. After a cycle of six presen­ta­tions, one contri­bu­tion is honored with an award in the following year.
