In May 2026, at the invi­ta­tion of Katharina Hinsberg, the Stiftung Insel Hombroich welcomes Hadi Tabatabai to the guest studio at the Rake­ten­sta­tion. During his residency, Tabatabai is deve­lo­ping a new series of small-scale works using thread as the primary material. Through processes of weaving and layering, the works move between drawing, painting, and sculpture.

Hadi Tabatabai was born in Mashhad, Iran, in 1964. He received a Bachelor of Science in Indus­trial Tech­no­logy from Cali­fornia State Univer­sity, Fresno in 1985 and a Bachelor of Fine Arts in Painting from San Francisco Art Institute in 1995, including a final semester at the Academy of Fine Arts in Prague.

On Saturday, May 30, 2026 from 12 to 5 pm, Tabatabai will open the doors of the guest studio and offer visitors insights into his current work and working process. In addition to works in progress, related studies and material expe­ri­ments created during his time at Hombroich will be on view.
