Brigitte Dams – Dwelling

At the invi­ta­tion of Georg Schmidt, Brigitte Dams has realised the site-specific work Dwelling. The Düssel­dorf based artist works with different materials from various contexts.

“I am inte­rested in elemen­tary sculp­tural issues. The connec­tions between inside and outside, layering and over­lap­ping, struc­tures and patterns. Haptic qualities and the possi­bi­li­ties of the material to build volumes out of the line, and to explore spatial dynamic expansion. Building through struc­tures, creating rela­ti­onships between material and form, between form and space, between the work and the viewer. I love building sites, scaf­fol­ding, cons­truc­tions, but also plants and their organic struc­tures, microcosm and macrocosm…networks.
My spatial works are often first created for a specific site, layering and over­laying built struc­tures. In addition to other connec­tions of materials, I also use tech­ni­ques of weaving and inter­wea­ving. There are, however, inter­faces to archi­tec­ture. *Dwelling* is an enclosure, a little house for me; I imagine myself living here for a while in this dwelling.”
