Exhibition Series Wachhaus, since 2023

The small whitewashed Wachhaus is located at the entrance to the Raketenstation in Hombroich. Since spring 2023, a cooperation of Stiftung Insel Hombroich and the Kunstakademie Düsseldorf has invited students to use the historical building for a location-specific work. The artists are free to choose whichever format and design they like, be it installation, video, photo, sculpture, painting or text.

The series of exhibitions was initiated by Michael Growe, who operates a studio at the Raketenstation. The varied and striking interventions are officially opened on the first Sunday of every second month and can be seen free of charge. More detailed information on this can be found in the newsletter and on the foundation’s website and social media channels.

Once a cycle of six presentations has been shown, the Hombroich community selects what they see as the most compelling work. The chosen work is then presented with the Wachhauspreis award at a special ceremony the following spring. In the first year, Rosa Schubert was presented with this award for her work withinoutside, object; in 2025, the winning work was Tom Seidel’s installation lingering traces.
